Isnt it funny how we hate crime and crimals but when we do it ourselves we try to justify why it is ok. We think we are fighting a enemy from the outside, but yet the biggest enemy we have, we look in the mirror at him or her everyday. It is just like in the new noir which we call neo noir where the detective is looking for the crimal but ultimally is search for himself for his own identity and how he may have lost it in the process.
The difference between neo noir and film noir is that neo noir is more of the times. Neo noir keeps the fundamentals of film noir and then adds it own twist things of our time. It show a modern day noir, where race, class, gender are shown in our contemporary soceity that makes up our new noir. With the film noir, it is a outside person narrator who is telling the story about the dectective looking for a villian and with neo noir it is the dectective looking for the villian but yet they are the villian like in the movie The Boure Identity where Jason is looking for a killer but comes to find out that he is the killer.
I believe we are like that also, looking for where the problem is coming from and never even thing that we are the problem ourselves, or our own solutions to our problems. The different noirs are like the same as other things in life. That you can change the techniques but the fundatmentals never change. The neo noir is like pulling from the pass and adding a little flare and twist to the already great gerne, Which make film noir even better but ultimatley reveals to people this is what we are dealing with today not other people as villains but the villians being us and us trying to solve and figure out oursleves. Looking at the new noir it is hard to catch a villian when you dont even know it is you so search hard and long solve and catch that villian in you
Your response is a bit short, and you didn’t mention the name of the article or the author, but I can see that you understood what it was basically about. Part of the prompt was also to discuss past, present and future neo-noir.
ReplyDeleteYou do understand the primary differences though. Classic noir is a hunt for the criminals, neo noir is a hunt for the self. The protagonist spends most of the time chasing an inner demon around, not knowing exactly what they were trying to catch until the end.
I like that you said that it would be hard to catch a villain if it was yourself, because it is difficult to see and admit that you are one. I hadn’t thought of that.
Good post, try to follow the prompt closer and go into a little more detail next time.
